Condolence: I offer my deepest condolences to Fred's family and his many friends. Fred and my father, Tommy Thompson, were freshman roommates at the Coast Guard Academy and remained lifelong friends. After my father died in 1983, Fred would often call himself my "adopted father" and we kept in touch over the years, especially in the past few years.

I'm so saddened by his passing - Fred is one of the finest people I've had in my life. I am proud that he considered me a friend.
