Ann Carter Lee, 87, of White Stone, Virginia, passed away on February 10, 2017. Ann was a sixth generation Washingtonian, the only daughter of Margaret Hoffman Carter and William Golden Carter. Ann lived in Chevy Chase, Maryland, until her marriage to Ed White when they relocated to White Stone. Ann was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Borden White, her Aunt Katherine Lyon Hoffman, and Uncle Simon Edward Hoffman and her beloved Poppy. Ann leaves her daughters Kate Marsh Lewis (Tom) and Carter Marsh, grandchildren William C. Lewis (Lisa) and Abigail V. Winter-Lewis, and great-grandchildren, Nathalie, Teddy, Juniper, Mia and Isabelle.

Ann attended the Potomac and National Cathedral Schools and Pine Manor Jr. College in Wellesley, MA. She was a member of the Junior League of Washington, the Garden Clubs of Washington and the Northern Neck, the Sulgrave Club, the Chevy Chase Club, Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club and the Colonial Dames. Ann was an amazing woman who could make anything elegant look easy, and she was a hostess who made every guest feel welcome. She was an enthusiastic volunteer who worked for the National Cathedral, especially enjoying working for their spring Flower Mart fundraiser. Ann was also on the boards of the Madeira School, where she organized a gift shop to raise money for scholarship students, the House of Mercy in Washington, and was President and Fundraising Chairman on the board of Historic Christ Church, where she was known for writing personal notes to one and all. Ann enjoyed being a judge for the White Stone Volunteer Firemen's parade for many years enthusiastically supporting that wonderful group of volunteers. She also assisted with the book, A History of Washington. Ann will be missed for her ready smile, her loyalty and incredible devotion and generosity to family and friends. Ann's constancy is truly something to emulate.

The family most especially wants to thank and acknowledge the friendship and devoted support of Eddie Carter and Priscilla Cox, as well as her caregivers Melissa Trimble and Jennifer Borgard. The kindness and patience of the staff at the memory unit at Commonwealth Assisted Living was greatly appreciated. Alzheimer's took away Ann's ability to communicate, but her sparkly blue eyes always demonstrated her feelings.
