Obituary for Otho Dabney "Dabney" Riley Jr.

Otho Dabney "Dabney"  Riley Jr.
Riley, Otho Dabney, Jr., 93, died July 28, 2017. He is survived by Betty C. Riley, his loving wife of 70 years; sister, Louise Smith; daughter, Paige R Norwood (Joe); son, Stephen D. Riley (Cathy); 5 grandchildren, George Norwood and wife, Nikki, Scott Riley, Billy Norwood, Brian Riley and Holly Norwood and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Dabney grew up in Lynchburg, VA. He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving in Europe during WWII. After his service, he graduated from the University of Richmond, 1949. He worked for the Commonwealth of Virginia, Reynolds Metals, and later started a business, owning and operating multiple Amoco gas station/convenience stores in the Richmond area.

Dabney loved boating and was active in the Richmond Power Squadron, Virginia Yacht Club and Coast Guard Auxiliary for many years. His love for fishing was passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was an avid card player, a whiz at the bridge table and loved playing "the game" with family.

Dabney was an active member of Kilmarnock United Methodist Church and involved in Stephen Ministry and a passionate volunteer for Interfaith Service Council in Kilmarnock, VA.

Gentle and kind, he was an avid story teller of many great adventures and maintained his wonderful sense of humor right to the end.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otho D. and Irma M. Riley and sister, Virginia Murray.

A celebration of life will be held August 19, 2017 at 1:00 p. m. at Kilmarnock United Methodist Church, 89 E. Church Street, Kilmarnock, VA 22482.
