Robert P. Chambers, Jr.
February 26, 1941 - September 4, 2017

WEEMS, VA -- Robert P. Chambers, Jr. (Bob) of Weems, Virginia died quietly at home on Monday, September 4, 2017 at the age of 76, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Bob was born February 26, 1941 in Baltimore, MD to Lt. Col. Robert P. Chambers and Helen T. Chambers. He is predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth C. Chambers (Betsy) and is survived by two children, Richard P. Chambers and his wife Christina of Arnold, Maryland and Deborah C. McKean and her husband Jim of Arnold, Maryland, four granddaughters, Anabel Chase Chambers, Natalie Elizabeth Chambers, Ellen Elizabeth McKean and Kailie Anna McKean and a sister, Lynn C. Redmond of Orlando, Florida.

Bob graduated in 1958 from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating Polytechnic, Bob then attended Johns Hopkins University where he received a BES degree in Electrical Engineering in 1962. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Bob spent most of his career working for the IBM Corporation as a Systems Engineer, where he retired in 1995.

Bob was an avid sailor and the family spent many weeks and weekends on their Alberg 30 sailboat, sailing the Chesapeake Bay. He enjoyed racing and brought home his share of silver cups. Bob served as Commodore of the Chesapeake Bay Alberg 30 Association, was a member of the Sailing Club of the Chesapeake, and Vice Commodore of the Moran Creek Yacht Club. After retiring, Bob and Betsy bought a Whitby 42, the “Blue Dolphin” where they spent eight wonderful years sailing in the Bahamas and Caribbean.

Along with sailing, Model Railroading was a hobby that kept Bob busy. During his lifetime, Bob acquired an extensive collection of model trains. He was known for his Christmas garden that Santa brought each Christmas Eve, and a train garden he was building in his home, that would show off his entire collection.

As an accomplished woodworker, he spent much of his free time in his workshop. He built most of his home in Weems, VA, and always had projects going to build gifts for family members.

When Bob and Betsy settled in Weems, Virginia on the Northern Neck, Bob found a new love in Golf. As a member of the King Carter Golf Club in Kilmarnock, Virginia, Bob spent many hours polishing his game and his swing.

A ‘Final Farewell Service” will be held at his home Friday, September 8, 2017 Food and Drinks available starting at 4:00 p.m. and the service starts at 6:00 p.m. with a celebration party after the service.

Bob suffered with two types of skin disease; a rare genetic skin disorder called Haley-Haley and Melanoma. In Lieu of flowers please make a donation to these organizations.
