Obituary for Henry Edward Dixon Sr.

Henry Edward  Dixon Sr.
Captain Henry E. Dixon, Sr. 84, of White Stone, Virginia passed away on October 16, 2017. He was a lifelong waterman having retired as a menhaden fish boat captain after 45 years. He was also a U. S. Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ellen Harding Dixon; son, Henry E. Dixon, Jr. (Lena); daughters, Pauline Virginia Smith and Clara L. Taylor (Booker); seven, grandchildren, Bojo Smith, Tasha Cuffee, Louis Smith, III, Booker Taylor, III, Samantha Smith, Reginald Taylor and Skylar Dixon; numerous great grandchildren; brother, Frank Dixon (Thelma); sister, Delores Ann Hummel (Stuart); brother-in-law, E. O. Harding; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Capt. Dixon was preceded in death by his parents, Henry L. Dixon and Pauline Lunsford Dixon; granddaughter, Cabell Dixon; siblings, Margaret Martin, Clara Dixon, Nettie Stine, Helen Allen, Clarence Dixon, Larry Dixon and Sandra Heineck and his beloved mother-in-law, Naomi Harding.

Capt. Dixon loved Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs , oysters from Ashley Cove, sitting on the creek bank and telling fish stories but most of all he loved his wife and his family. He genuinely cared for others as was evident in the many acts of kindness he bestowed.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Akila Gaskins for her love and support to the family and a thank you to Barbara Rich and Elaine Henry.

A memorial service will be held 11:30 a. m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
