Obituary for Jean Louise Christensen (Vickery)

Jean Louise Christensen, nee Vickery, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on February 26, 2018 at the Assisted Living Facility at RWC in Irvington, Virginia.

Jean was born in Swampscott, Massachusetts, on October 22, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Grace (French) Vickery. Her beloved husband of 62 years, Albert (Chris) Christensen died in 2013.

Jean was a graduate of Lynn English High School. She attended Chandler Secretarial School in Boston, Massachusetts.

After her marriage to Chris, Jean became a devoted wife and mother. Work obligations had the family move to Cincinnati, Ohio; Seattle, Washington; Malvern, Pennsylvania and Alexandria, Virginia. During that time, Jean took painting classes and cooking classes, much to the delight (and distress) of her husband and children. While in Pennsylvania, Jean became involved in the Unitarian Church in Devon, Pennsylvania where she chaired the committee that hosted the art show held at the church every year. In Alexandria, Jean was the executive secretary to the director at the American Horticultural Society.

Following her husband’s retirement, Jean and Chris took many trips abroad including visits to Switzerland, Greece, Russia, and England.

Jean and Chris made their final move to the Northern Neck, in Virginia where they became residents at RWC and actively participated in the many opportunities the facility presented.

Jean will be sadly missed by her three children: Carol Christensen-Fox (Jeff Fox) of Alexandria, Virginia; Dianne Bailey (Marshall) of Ashland, Virginia; Douglas Christensen (Mary Ann) of Lake Worth, Florida; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to share memories and stories of Jean will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 2:00 pm at RWC in Irvington, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, you are kindly asked to make donations in Jean’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
