Obituary for Margaret Ingram Burrell Matthias (Burrell)

Margaret (Ingram) Burrell Matthias of Norfolk, Virginia passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Monday, July 23, 2018 in Buchanan, Virginia.
She was born July 9, 1928 to the late Alfred William Burrell and Alma Ruth Ingram Burrell of White Stone, Virginia. She attended Ferrum College and worked for the Army Corps of Engineers where she received numerous commendations for her precision in preparing complex reports. After leaving the Corps she devoted her time to raising her daughters and delving into her numerous interests including painting, photography, sewing, needlework, quilting, crafting, traveling, gardening and cooking. She had a beautiful alto voice, played piano, loved to sing in the choir and was a member of the Echos, a choral group in Norfolk. One her greatest joys was spending time with her three grandchildren. She volunteered her time in church, delivered meals on wheels and was a firm believer in charitable giving.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Carl Matthias. She leaves behind her daughters Ruth Ann Davis of Buchanan, Va. and Margo Brown and her husband Andy of Weems, Va., grandchildren Stephen Jackson, Luke Frank and his wife Nancy, Sarah Jarman and her husband James, great-grandchildren Megan, Micah, August and Cameron and our family’s good friend, Carlton Driskill.
A service will be held at White Stone Methodist Church in White Stone, Virginia on Saturday July 28, 2018 at 11:30 AM with burial in the church cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Thomas Alberico and the staff of Virginia Oncology, Dr. William Fintel and the staff of Blue Ridge Oncology, Dr. John Rogers and the staff of Blue Ridge Cancer Care, the staff of Lewis Gale Hospital and the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice.
