Obituary for Raymond Alexander Pendleton

Mr. Raymond Alexander Pendleton passed away on January 11, 2019, surrounded by his family. Raymond was born on November 19, 1936 and was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Agnes Pendleton, sister Ruth Ogburn and brother William. Raymond leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend, Nancy Jean Pendleton, daughter Catherine Butsch (Kenneth), daughter Alexa Peronard (Louis), son Mark Pendleton, daughter Susan Pendleton, stepdaughter Paige McDonald (Joe), stepson Patrick Fraughnaugh (Cherie), stepdaughter Theresa Williams (Tim), eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, brother Jesse, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Pendleton spent his entire career in the construction industry primarily with Daniel Construction Co., which became a part of Fluor Corporation in the late ‘70s. His projects included high-rise office buildings, pharmaceutical production lab and research hospital, a book-publishing plant, airport, distribution centers, roads, bridges and numerous other projects. He retired from Fluor as a project director after 43 years of service which took him and Jean all over the United States, Canada and the Middle East. When he was transferred to another location, Jean, who worked in the legal field, would resign her job and prepare to move, sometimes on short notice, as they had no intentions of being separated by work. After retirement, Raymond and Jean relocated back to Virginia to the small town of White Stone on the Chesapeake Bay. Raymond was an avid fisherman and loved the Chesapeake Bay. He and his favorite fishing partner, Jean, spent many happy days trying to outsmart the sometimes-elusive fish.

A memorial service will be held 12 noon Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at The White Stone Church of the Nazarene.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the White Stone Church of the Nazarene.
