Obituary for Claude Franklin Andrews Jr.

Claude Franklin Andrews, Jr., 87, of Richmond, son of Claude Franklin Andrews and Jane Elizabeth Andrews, died peacefully in his sleep on January 24, 2019 with his family by his side. He was residing in Weems, Virginia at the home of his niece, Page Pembroke Rudolph. In addition to his niece, he is survived by his sister, Jane Andrews Tinsley, nephew, Claude Graham Pembroke, III (Holly), great nephew, Claude Graham Pembroke, IV, great niece, Lee Pembroke Kephart (Zak), great niece, Caroline Pembroke Woolley (Adam), great nephew, Christopher Andrews Pembroke, great nephew, Joseph Wayne Rudolph, and 2 great-great nephews. He was affectionately known to his family as “Uncle Junie”. He attended Benedictine and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, class of 1949. He was called to serve in the Korean War and attained the rank of Corporal. Upon returning to Richmond, he attended RPI and worked for Export Leaf Tobacco Company. Claude was a friendly, kind soul who loved all animals, particularly dogs. He loved music, especially Tony Bennett, and enjoyed Broadway musicals immensely. His cheerful and appreciative presence, will be missed by his family and friends.


Interment at Riverview Cemetery in Richmond will be held 2:00 p. m. Friday, March 8, 2019. Because of his devotion to the dogs in his life, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the The Richmond SPCA.
