Obituary for Betty Roberson Jones
Betty Roberson Jones, 95, of Kilmarnock, Virginia passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on November 11, 2018.
She is survived by four daughters, Jan Chestnutt and Deborah Edgar both of Richmond, Va., Carolyn Prescott Foster (Paul) of White Stone, Va., and Patricia J. Richardson (L. J.) of Hardy, Va.; daughter-in-law, Joyce C. Howell of Mechanicsville, Va.; six grandchildren, Rebecca Cumbee Jenkins, Bobbi Jo Heffner, Joseph W. Evans, Jacob M. Edgar, Kenneth Earl Thacker and Alan Petty; seven great grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Earl Jones; son, Landis Cumbee; granddaughter, Angela Corrigan; great granddaughter, Jesse Corrigan Richardson; one sister and three brothers.
Betty was manager of Montgomery Ward Catalog Store in Wilmington, N. C. and Richmond, Va. for 15 years . She was also manger for Gerson Furniture Company in Richmond for 20 years and a Mary Kay Representative for 20 years. After retiring, she moved to Kilmarnock.
She was a longtime active member of Battery Park Christian Church, Richmond and later at Kilmarnock Baptist Church, Kilmarnock.
Betty was active with the Hanover Rescue Squad while she lived in Richmond and then with Seconds Unlimited after moving to Kilmarnock. She loved fishing, gardening and received many trophies for her skills at bowling and horseshoes.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p. m. Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Kilmarnock Baptist Church, Kilmarnock. Family will receive friends 2 to 4 p. m Friday, November 16, 2018 at Currie Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Riverview Cemetery, 1401 S. Randolph St., Richmond, Va. 11:00 a. m. Monday, November 19, 2018.
