Born in Goldsboro, NC on March 10, 1927, Mildred grew up in Franklin and Emporia, VA before moving to Suffolk, VA, where she met her future husband Robert R. Martin. She worked for American Bank and Trust Co. with her sister Frances, and was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mildred truly was a selfless individual, always putting others first. She loved socializing with friends and family, and had the unique ability to become friends with strangers in a matter of minutes. When she smiled, there was a sparkle in her eyes that lit up the room. Full of joy, Mildred was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones.
